Her name is Ebony Emerson. From a young age she was emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by those who were supposed to care for her most. After she snatched her life back, she learned how to take care of herself. She set out to be a strong- educated woman living an independently wealthy lifestyle. Her dreams are short lived because ghosts from her past won't stay in the cemetery where she left them. She was forced to make some grown woman decisions and she was not afraid to do what she had to.
When she grabbed another clean slate, she decided to jump head first into the lifestyle every girl dreams of the handsome husband, beautiful home, and cute kids. It's a good thing she was used to claiming what she deserved and what was rightfully hers. She had to learn how to make moves WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING and she got damn good at it

First time reading work by this author but it definitely won't be the last. The beginning of the book starts off... sick! Especially with the abuse Ebony had to endure from those who were supposed to protect her, but as the book continues we start to see a new, more boldly, mature, and take charge Ebony, not the young helpless teen from the beginning.
Why the 4* ? I felt the ending was rushed. I was expecting more action between Ebony and her childhood friend, who later shows up out the blue after so many years.
Overall the book was extremely good and we'll written.
This story was at the beginning was difficult to read. I wish the author wouldn't have spent so long talking about the sexual abuse. I think 2 or 3 chapters of it would have been enough, but more than half the book explaining the details of abuse was too much. I think the book would've been better if the relationship between montrez and ebony was described in more detail. I also didn't like how confusing the book was. The flow was bad bad bad. I kept having to read over again certain portions just to make sense of it. Another thing that bothered me were the constant references to Ebony's biracial heritage. This is 2016 interracial couples are common it's nothing new. Also I hate that she was beautiful because she was biracial. We need to stop with that kind of thinking it's so tired. Finally, while I felt sorry for Ebony, she didn't come across to me as a real person. I don't know if it's because she was narrating the story or what, but I wasn't really liking her character. The book has potential, but needs more work so three stars it is
Can't wait to read part 2. Part 1 will keep you on your toes never a dull moment!
Very interesting story Can't get the last chapter seems like a part is missing. No flow just stopped. What happened to the characters at the hospital Next thing the story continues it is the 4th of July party What gives??? Needs another chapter. Very disappointed with the ending
"When No One is Looking" is classy and written in a tasteful way. The book attacks a subject that is swept under the rug in today's society. The book is a true testament of survival with the heroine coming out on top in the end despite how many times she was broken down by the people who were supposed to love and protect her. I thoroughly found myself enjoying this book and lookin forward to reading more.
I was loving this book, but the ending was bad. The story of Ebony and her tragic life was compelling and filled with so much drama that it pulled me in and I was really feeling her character. But when the ending came I was totally disappointed with it. I guess I expected more from a Zi'ere book. People falling down stairs and then all you get is a bar-b-que does not explain what happened to the characters after the fall. What happened to the deadly wife, the baby mama and the twins. Did they all build a life together or are we to assume they did? WTF happened. I love Zi'ere books but this one really left me with more questions than answers. I was really shady on this book. I can't really say I recommend this book, because the ending was sucky.
I cried while reading this book I was also in shock A mother and father molesting they only child was shocking and sick Derick was constantly getting his own child pregnant.Ebony then takes both parents lives and start to live hers as she gets older he past comes back.to haunt her she is forced to commit.murder once again....She is a sucessful person who refuse to go back into.her haunting past....Tgis was a good read And I will be adding.this to my book club must read list as well as recommending it to friends and.family....
